Re evaluating some goals

Well, teyhrun is making a double post today. Mostly because I have plenty of time now. All of my goals related to jobs are now replaced with the goal of getting a new job. The company I worked for is not doing well in a slow economy.

The good news is that I now have the time to pursue some other goals that I felt I didn’t have time for. Maybe its just because times are tough, and people often find their religion in hard times and drop it again in good times. Well, I’m no exception I guess. I really want to go to church more regularly. Now that the desire to sleep in on Sunday isn’t really an issue for me anymore, and the need to get out of the house and be around other people is bigger, church all of a sudden is a lot more interesting. I also have decided I should read my bible more and finally get started on this “Love Dare” book.

I got the book when visiting a church for the first time. The church wasn’t really our style, but I felt like we were in the right place at the right time. I had some wedding money left in my pocket that a relative had told us to spend on something important, something we could remember that is what they got us. I used some of it to buy this book. Ever since, I’ve let it sit on my shelf and ignored it. I guess maybe I”m just trying to use religion to help me cope with the loss of my job. Maybe religion is just a crutch, but I need some support on my life and I feel like in the past, my happiest times often were in church and when I was closer to God. I fell into mediocre sucess and a busy life and I basically told God I didn’t have time for Him. Maybe God “answered my prayers” by giving me more free time.

Part of the reason for these thoughts is from my past. When I was trying to decide what to do for college, I prayed to God and put my faith in Him to guide me. It was a miracle that I got into the program that I did and I knew He was guiding me. From that point on, I never doubted my path. I knew I was in the right place and doing the right thing and when I had doubts I had to think back to that time. Now I am unemployed and there are no jobs avaliable in my field of work. Part of me doubts my choice. For the first time in seven years, I doubted that I had made the right choice or if I should change my path. Maybe God is trying to tell me to use this situation to get my life rebalanced and recentered. If nothing else, I can feel better about myself this way, instead of moping around the house because I am not doing something productive.

Such is the way of the meandering path of life. Some goals fall to the side, some rise to importance. “You can’t direct the wind, but you can adjust your sails.”

Complete: Camping and Returning Home

Teyhrun here. Reporting on two complete goals. We got two birds with one stone. This past Labor day weekend, Pica and I went on a roadtrip to my home town. We saw the sights of places I haven’t seen for years. We saw the house that my dad built and the trees are HUGE that we planted when I was a kid. We saw some family that we haven’t seen in a long time, including my mom’s brother and his family.

In addtion, we camped while we were up there. We purchased a tent and some other supplies and we borrowed a camp stove, though most of the food we had, we boought from a restaurant, so it was easier camping because we didn’t have to deal with trying to keep food cold for a long road trip as much. We were able to achieve a major trip half way across the country without spending very much money. For the price of hotels and plane tickets, we purchased most of what we would need to camp and next time we want to take a trip, those purchases are already made.

I felt the journey was very good and I’m glad that we did it. I have not been tent camping in a long time and there are some challenges there that aren’t always as much fun to deal with, but for trips on a budget, camping out can be about the cheapest way to go.

The Mission: Create and organize our goals

The Details: Teyhrun and I brainstormed our goals separately, then came together to see where we stood. Obviously a number of the goals were ones that we would complete together, but there are some personal ones as well. We arranged our goals into different categories:

Travel
Finance
Culture
Self-Improvement
Learning
Hobbies
Relationships
Things to Own
Jobs
Accolades
Random
Household

Instead of using tons of paper, we set up our Master List and Action/Waiting List on Google Docs Excel.

The Result: A complete Master List, Action List, and Waiting List that can be easily accessed anywhere we have Internet.

The Mission: Complete the 101 Goals in 1001 Days.

The Details: After some blog-surfing we came across this link, and decided to give it a go. We used this blog to set up and organize our list. We are also being realistic, in that a number of our goals will change throughout the next 3ish years as life goes on.
